
The New GIRO-Ticket
for Bus Travel on Madeira
After several deadline extensions, the change is now final:
As of 31 October 2025, the current rechargeable GIRO tickets will no longer be valid.
Unused credit will not be refunded.
The New 30-Day GIRO Pass
Since 1 September 2025, the new 30-Day Pass has replaced the old ticketing system.
It allows unlimited travel within the selected fare zone for 30 consecutive days – ideal for visitors staying longer on Madeira who do not have a registered residence on the island.
Prices:
- Within the city: €40
- Beyond city limits: €50
- GIRO Pass card issue fee: €5
The pass can be obtained at any sales office of the following operators:
Horários do Funchal, SIGA CAM, and SIGA Rodoeste.

In Short
- Valid for 30 days from the top-up date
- Unlimited trips within the purchased fare zones
- No proof of residence on Madeira required
- One-time card issue fee: €5
Available Fare Zones
a) Municipal:
Covers trips within one municipality, on all public transport lines operated there (except Aerobus).
b) Inter-Municipal:
Valid for travel across the entire island of Madeira and Porto Santo, on all public transport routes (except Aerobus).
c) Regional:
Valid for travel across Madeira and Porto Santo, on all routes operated by any company, including Aerobus.
d) Aerobus:
Special pass for the shuttle service to and from Madeira International Airport.
How to Apply
Applications can be submitted to SIGA or Horários do Funchal.
You will need:
- A completed application form
- A copy of your ID (passport or identity card)
- Proof of Portuguese tax identification number (NIF)
- A recent passport photo
